Service projects
John (3rd grade) was encouraged to complete a service project for school totalling at least two hours. If he volunteered with his family, he could include our hours as well. Since all the snow melting reveals litter, we decided to spend our time picking up garbage in the neighborhood. We only made it around one block but at least one block looks pretty good! If anyone is looking to do some family volunteering, I highly recommend Doing Good Together (www.doinggoodtogether.org). You can subscribe to get their newsletter as well. There are a lot of great ideas with varying levels of difficulty.

What a great value to instill in kids! I remember my sister running with Tristan in a jogger and bringing along a trash bag to pick up cans or bottles they found. It really put a damper on her stride, but taught Tristan the value of keeping the neighborhood clean. In Cordova, we have a spring Cordova Clean-Up Day every May. It's fun to help clean up, but sort of depressing to see how much trash is lying around in the corners of buildings, etc.--I try to believe much of it was blown from a full trash can, vs. just tossed out a car window. :) Keep up the good work Caskeys!
